EXO-001 · Exodus 3 — Burning Bush

Purpose: first translation from the Moses narrative. Stress-tests theophany, divine name, liberation, holy ground, and the identity-copula gap. All new compounds proposed here are filed in corpus/translations/Bible/exodus-3-1-15.md which contains the full vocabulary framework, verse-by-verse analysis, and gap documentation.

S398 la-na-Moses lo-zon ka-zo-su-ka ne-na-Yitro Moses shepherded Jethro's flock.

Notes

First attestation of zo-su-ka / zo-su-ka-li (shepherd: structured-organism-tending-agent). zon (herd ungulates, CLQ-006a) is the natural form for Jethro's flock.

S399 la-na-Moses lo-zon ka-di pa-no-ko He led the flock toward the open wilderness.

Notes

pa-no-ko = place without containment = open/unenclosed wilderness. no-ko (W016) already registered; pa- locative prefix applies.

S400 la-na-Moses ki pa-na-Horeb [pa-su-be-go-li :: mountain of the creator] He came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

Notes

First attestation of pa-su (structured place = mountain). pa-su'be-go-li is the full form (depth 5; ' recommended); be-go-li already a registered unit so the grouping is unambiguous.

S401 la-si-ki-li'be-go-li lu lo-na-Moses ro-ra-lu-ki The angel of the LORD appeared to Moses in fire.

Notes

First attestation of both si-ki-li (signal-motion-agent = messenger/angel) and ra-lu-ki (energy-light-process = fire). si-ki-li'be-go-li = creator's messenger = divine messenger; ' binds be-go-li as the possessor subcompound. lu as intransitive appearance verb (became visible).

S402 la-zo-su ra-lu-ki no de The bush burned but was not consumed.

Notes

The miracle is structurally encoded: ra-lu-ki no de = fire-process + but-not + decrease = burning without consuming. no contrastive coordinator. The most compact rendering yet of a miracle claim. CLQ-EXT candidate: no-de'ra-lu-ki (fire-without-decrease) as a potential juncture-compound colloquial unit for repeated reference to this event.

S403 la-na-Moses to [to-si go la-zo-su ra-lu-ki no de] Moses reasoned: what is the cause that the bush burns but does not decrease?

Notes

la-X to {clause} = X cognitively holds the question. to-si go = what-is-the-cause = "why." First use of to-si go as a causal content question.

S404 ta la-na-Moses ki, la-Elohim ka-si lo-na-Moses ko-zo-su God called Moses by name from within the bush.

Notes

ko-zo-su = containment-of-plant = from within the bush. ko as spatial origin marker. Temporal frame + main clause: when Moses moved [to look], Elohim called.

S405 la-na-Moses si lo-pa-mi Moses answered: "Here I am."

Notes

pa-mi = place-of-me = my location = here. The locative surface of Hebrew hineni (here I am). Gap: hineni as a speech-act of total availability has no Tonesu equivalent; lo-pa-mi captures only the locative dimension. See exodus-3-1-15.md Gap 2.

S406 la-Elohim ka-si / no-ki-di / lo-ki-ne ka-de-ne / pa-mi pa-vo-fe God commanded: do not approach; your sandals; this place is holy.

Notes

Three clauses: (1) no-ki-di = do not move toward (negated directional motion imperative); (2) lo-ki-ne ka-de-ne = your sandals (ki-ne = motion-bond = footwear), deliberately-unbind them; (3) pa-mi pa-vo-fe = this place [is a] value-bounded place = holy ground. First attestation: ki-ne (sandal, W152), pa-vo-fe (holy ground, W153).

S407 la-Elohim ne go-na-Abraham go-na-Yitzhak go-na-Yaakov God named himself by relational lineage.

Notes

go-na-X = origin-relation to named-X = God-of-X. Three-name proper-noun chain joined by repeated go origin-frames. First three-proper-name relational list in corpus.

S408 la-na-Moses ka-ko lo-se-lu-ze / fa-ra go ka-se lo-Elohim Moses hid his face; he was afraid to look at God.

Notes

ka-ko lo-se-lu = deliberately-contain the visual-perception-organ = hide/cover the eyes. se-lu (W130). First attestation: fa-ra = affect-force = fear/awe (W154).

S409 la-Elohim se lo-fa-de-ra'zo-li-mi pa-na-Egypt God: I have perceived my people's suffering in Egypt.

Notes

First attestation: fa-de-ra = affect-decrease-force = suffering/misery (W155). zo-li-mi = my people (W148 + mi possessive). The ' is semantically load-bearing: without it fa-de-ra-zo-li-mi parses nonsensically as a deep-right-branch chain. This sentence is a good teaching case for why ' is not optional at depth.

S410 la-Elohim ki wi ka-pa-ki lo-zo-li-mi pa-na-Egypt di-pa-vo God: I will bring my people out to a good and open land.

Notes

First attestation: pa-ki = place-motion = liberation act; ka-pa-ki = deliberate-place-motion-action (W156, W160). di-pa-vo = directed toward a value-place = toward the good land.

S411 la-Elohim ka-si lo-na-Moses / ki / wi la-tu ki lo-na-Pharaoh ka-pa-ki lo-zo-li-mi God: Go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to liberate my people.

Notes

Agent-drop imperative ki = go! Second attestation of ka-pa-ki (liberation act) in the same passage — building toward registry registration.

S412 la-na-Moses to-si la-mi wi ka-pa-ki lo-zo-li-mi? Moses: who am I to do this?

Notes

to-si la-mi = content question in agent slot = who am I / what is my qualification? The hineni mirror: identity questioned rather than affirmed.

S413 la-Elohim ne pa-tu / du la-tu ka-pa-ki lo-zo-li-mi, la-tu ki lo-pa-su-mi God: I will be with you; you will return to this mountain.

Notes

ne pa-tu = relational bond at your place = divine presence expressed as relational co-location (avoids identity copula). pa-su-mi = my structured-place = this mountain. Second attestation of pa-su (mountain, W157).

S414 la-na-Moses to-si na-Elohim? Moses: what name shall I give them?

Notes

Content question in name-slot = what is the divine name? Simple; the weight is all in the answer.

S415 la-mi go-ne lo-mi God: "I am who I am."

Notes

First attestation and central gap: go-ne = cause-relate = self-originating relation (W159). la-mi go-ne lo-mi = I stand in a causal-relational bond directed at myself = I am my own origin and referent = ehyeh asher ehyeh. This is a relation claim, not an identity claim — the constitutional self-identity meaning of the divine name remains outside Tonesu's current grammar. The gap is documented and not resolved by this rendering. Whether go-ne lo-mi develops a strong conventional identity reading through corpus frequency is an empirical question.

S416 ka-si lo-zo-li-mi / la-go-ne-mi ka-si lo-tu God: tell them "I am" sent you.

Notes

go-ne-mi = the self-originating-I = "I am" used as a sender-name in agent position. The reflexive-causal compound nominalized: the name and the claim are the same entity. Second attestation of go-ne.

S417 na-mi ti-no-fe / re-ka-si lo-na-mi ta-re-zo-ne-go This name is eternal; call me by it across all generations.

Notes

ti-no-fe (eternal, THO-001) used as zero-copula predicate of a name. ta-re-zo-ne-go = at-recurring-ancestor-cycle = from generation to generation. Uses zo-ne-go (W077, parent/ancestor) + re (cycle) + ta (temporal frame). Clean carry-forward from prior vocabulary.

EXO-002 · Exodus 7:8–12 — Aaron's Staff and the Sorcerers

Purpose: Staff-and-serpent confrontation: Aaron's staff transforms into a snake before Pharaoh; the Egyptian sorcerers replicate by their secret arts; Aaron's serpent devours theirs. Key tests: categorical transformation via three-clause ; sequential chain (zo-su-mu ki ; ne zo-ki-ma); first use of zo-ki-ma (W220, snake genus term) and zo-su-mu (W221, staff/wooden implement); to-ra-li (W207) and wi-ra-su (W179) in Biblical register; instrumental go-si; ko-de (engulf-and-consume / swallow); wi-fe-ki (harden one's will); first proper-name attestations na-Aharon and na-Faro. Full analysis in corpus/translations/Bible/exodus-7-staff-serpents.md.

S696 la-na-Aharon ka lo-zo-su-mu ; zo-su-mu ki ; ne zo-ki-ma Aaron cast the staff; the staff changed; [it was] a snake.

S697 la-na-Faro si-ki lo-to-ra-li Pharaoh directed a summons to the sorcerers.

S698 la-to-ra-li ka lo-zo-su-mu-ne go-si wi-ra-su The sorcerers cast their staffs by means of their secret arts.

S699 zo-su-mu-ne ki ; ne zo-ki-ma Their staffs changed; [they were] snakes.

S700 la-zo-ki-ma-na-Aharon ko-de lo-zo-su-mu-ne Aaron's snake consumed their staffs.

S701 la-na-Faro wi-fe-ki / no la-na-Faro si lo-si-be-go-li Pharaoh's will hardened / Not: Pharaoh received the divine signal.

New vocabulary: W220 zo-ki-ma (snake/serpent), W221 zo-su-mu (staff/wooden implement). Compositional first uses: ko-de (swallow/engulf-and-consume); wi-fe-ki (harden one's will); si-be-go-li (divine signal); na-Aharon (Aaron); na-Faro (Pharaoh). Key finding: "X became Y" requires a three-clause decomposition in Tonesu: X ki ; ne Y (X changed; [it is] Y). There is no single-clause 'become' verb. The competitive structure of the passage maps naturally onto two parallel ; chains (S696 and S699) with the decisive ko-de resolution in S700.
