T021 · Foundational Sentence

S020 · legacy la-li-be lo-ma ka-ko The child drinks water.

Notes

  • li-be = growing-person / child. li (social agent) + be (growth) = person in their growth phase. Candidate W033; registered in registry/derived.md.
  • ma for water: the primitives table notes "water is ma" in context. Here the sentence (a person ingesting substance) makes ma unambiguously water. Primitive ma validated for substance reference.
  • ka-ko = action of containing = ingest / drink / take in. ko (containment) used as verbal root: the act of bringing a substance into containment within the body. First corpus use.
  • T021 pass. Clean.

T022 · Foundational Sentence

S021 · legacy ro-mu lo-zo-ma ka-fe With a tool, one cuts wood. / A tool cuts wood.

Notes

  • Instrument-as-agent tension resolved: English "the tool cuts" treats an artifact as a grammatical subject. Tonesu refuses this: la (agent) + ka (intentional action) requires a volitional agent. A tool is not volitional; it is an instrument (ro). The human user is a dropped/implied agent — see agentless clause open question. The English sentence is ontologically misleading. The Tonesu form is more accurate: the tool mediates the action, it does not perform it.
  • zo-ma = organic-matter = wood / biological substance. zo (living organism) + ma (matter) = organic substance. Transparent compound; not registered separately.
  • ka-fe = action of dividing / cutting / creating a boundary. fe (boundary) used as verbal root. First corpus use.
  • T022 pass (with intentionality principle confirmed). Agentless-with-instrument construction noted; formal grammar rule pending.

T023 · Foundational Sentence

S022 · legacy la-ra-su lo-lu be The star emits light.

Notes

  • Non-intentional production grammar: bare be (not ka-be) marks non-intentional generation. First corpus use of be as a transitive verb without the ka action particle. The distinction is now doing grammatical work:
  • ka-be = deliberate creation (S014: people create tools)
  • be alone = natural emergence / non-intentional production (this sentence) ka is not obligatory on be; its presence signals intentionality — its absence signals natural process.
  • la with a non-volitional natural agent: the star holds the agent slot even without intent. la marks the causal source of the event; non-volitional sources may occupy la when the verb is bare be. Contrast with S021: the tool uses ro (instrument) because a volitional human act is implied; here no human agent exists — the star IS the generative source, so la is correct.
  • ra-su = energy-structure = natural energy mass / star. ra (energy) + su (structure) = a structured concentration of energy. Distinct from ra-ki-mu (W012: engine, which is an artifact). A star is not an artifact; it is a natural energy structure. Registry candidate.
  • Natural object gap flagged: stars, rivers, geological features — non-artifact, non-living physical objects — have no clean entity class. ra-su works for energy-generating natural bodies; a general "natural non-living physical object" category may emerge. Logged in notes/open-questions.md.
  • T023 pass (with non-intentional production distinction formalized).

T024 · Foundational Sentence

S023 · legacy la-to-ki-mu lo-si ka-ko The machine stores information.

Notes

  • to-ki-mu (W011) = knowledge-processing device = computer. First use without a purpose clause.
  • si = signal / encoded representation = information / data. Consistent with S013–S014 usage. si is validated as the right root for "information."
  • ka-ko = action of containing = store. Second corpus use (first: S020). ka-ko now confirmed as the canonical store / hold / contain verb across substances (water, S020) and abstract data (information, this sentence).
  • T024 pass. Clean.

T025 · Foundational Sentence

S024 · legacy la-ma-di pa-pu-ma ka-ki The river flows to the sea.

Notes

  • ma-di = directed-matter = river / stream. ma (matter/substance) + di (direction) = matter with inherent directedness. Preferred over ma-ki (matter-motion) because rivers have stable direction; ma-ki generalizes to any flowing substance.
  • pu-ma = collective-water = sea / large water body. pu (plurality) + ma (matter/water) = accumulated water. In the pa particle position: pa-pu-ma = at/to the sea.
  • Directional destination gap flagged: pa (location particle) does not distinguish rest-at, move-toward, or move-from. "The river flows to the sea" and "the river is in the sea" both use pa-pu-ma. The di root exists but is not yet a grammatical particle. Logged as open question: promote di to destination particle.
  • ka-ki = action of moving / flow. The motion's direction is encoded in the agent itself (ma-di), not in a separate directional marker.
  • T025 pass (with destination-particle gap logged).
